Before It Becomes What’s Next

Just a quick note to say hi, after a summer-long pause…

Yesterday, I dropped my twins off for their first day of high school.

Before that, last week, I moved my eldest into first year residence at the  University of Guelph Ontario.

Change is coming for all of us whether we like it or not.

And the thing about change is that we get to let go of something to welcome something new in.

This summer, I let go of a lot.

I let go of meetings and events, new clients, and even social media, so I could focus on my own passion projects, including a screenplay, my second novel and a complete season of my new podcast, launching soon—stay tuned.

I let go of the way my family has always done things and welcomed in new configurations of how we show up for each other.

I let go of grieving alone and leaned into my friendships and community.

And I let go of the stories I thought I knew for the chance to discover something new.

I used my screenwriting glasses to revise my novel, and my novel writing glasses to draft up my screenplay, because sometimes all we need is a new lens to create fresh possibility.

That’s why I’m so grateful for moments and seasons that invite us to pause and cherish what is before it becomes what’s next.

My kids are all on new adventures this September and I feel like a world of possibility is opening up for me too and it’s exciting, sad and scary all at the same time.

I hope the summer was equally good to you and that you had the opportunity to cherish the moments, cherish each other and cherish this time.

I hope whatever hardship you faced, created new growth and opportunity.

And I hope that you also have fun things to look forward to this fall that you’re excited about.

I’m back. I’m with you again. And I’ll see you soon.
